TROOP 19 EAGLE APPLICATION CHECKLIST (2.7.26)

 

  1. EAGLE SCOUT APPLICATION: Fill in the application. See link here. Don’t forget to include the Grand Total Hours for your Eagle project
    1. This needs to be signed by the applicant (you), Unit Leader (Mr. McKenna), Committee Chair (Mr. Reda)
    2. When completed send application to Advancement Chair (Ms. Phillips), who will send to Northern NJ Council BSA Council for final review, verification and approval. 
    3. The Council Eagle Coordinator then enters the approved Eagle application in the Council’s database and sends it back to the Advancement Chair (Ms. Phillips)

This must be complete before scheduling the Eagle Board of Review (BOR)

 

  1. COMPLETE EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT WORKBOOK: Be sure to include all sections:
    1. Project proposal (including all signatures)
    2. Final plan
    3. Fundraising application (including all signatures)
    4. Project report (including all signatures)

 

  1. EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS: Before and after photos, diagrams, maps, etc.)

 

  1. STATEMENT OF YOUR AMBITIONS AND LIFE PURPOSE:  Short essay describing your goals, values, and mindsets. Include positions held in Scouting, your religious institution, school, etc. Add any honors and awards received. Statements are typically around 1000 words long.  

 

 

  • LETTERS OF REFERENCE/RECOMMENDATION: Aim to get individuals who know you personally. Include parents/guardians, religious (if not affiliated with an organized religion, then the parent or guardian provides this reference), educational, employer (if employed), and two other references. 

 

 

  1. Use the template letter to request the reference
  2. Letters should be signed and emailed or mailed to the Advancement Chair

  1. EAGLE BOR:  Once steps 1-5 are complete the Advancement Chair will schedule an Eagle BOR including the following people:
    1. District Advancement Chairman or designate.
    2. Troop 19 Advancement Chair or designate.
    3. Two – Three Troop parent volunteers. 

 

  1. AT THE EAGLE BOR, the following occurs:
    1. Board reviews the credentials (letters, application, project) without the Scout present.
    2. The Scoutmaster or designate introduces the Eagle Candidate to the Board and they proceed to interview him. 
    3. The Eagle Candidate leaves the room.  The BOR discusses the Eagle Candidate and decides on the candidate’s approval.
    4. The Eagle candidate is asked to re-join the Board and is awarded his Eagle rank at that time or he is given a list of areas that require improvement along with a target date to re-convene the BOR.
    5. District and Troop Advancement Chairs signs the application.

 

  1. Advancement Chair returns the signed form to the Council office and the date of the BOR becomes the official date of the Scout’s elevation to Eagle.  All items under the Scout’s control (earning Merit Badges, Eagle Project etc.) MUST be completed before his 18th birthday.  The BOR can be held up to 3 months after his 18th birthday. 

 

  1. Council reviews the completed Eagle application and sends it to National BSA.

 

  1. National BSA validates the application and informs Council who then sends a letter to the Troop indicating that the Scout’s Eagle application has been validated and OK’s the Troop to schedule an Eagle Court of Honor.
