Totin’ Chip

Learn the skills. Earn the responsibility.

Totin’ Chip teaches Scouts to safely and responsibly use a pocketknife, ax, and saw. Earning it grants the privilege of carrying and using these tools during Scouting activities.

Earning Totin’ Chip

Scouts must demonstrate proper tool handling, care, and use to the Scoutmaster or a designated instructor. This includes understanding safety rules, protecting others and property, and following the Outdoor Code.

Use this simple checklist to prepare, track progress, and confirm completion.

Keeping the Privilege

Tools are useful equipment and must be treated responsibly. Scouts must continue to follow safety rules and respect people, property, and the outdoors. Unsafe or irresponsible use can result in losing Totin’ Chip privileges.
